Scottish Women's Development Forum

LGBTI Police Association

The Scottish LGBTI Police Association is an independent membership-based staff support network for LGBTI police officers and staff working in Scotland and those who support us regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The association’s vision is to:

Advance LGBTI equality, inclusion and support throughout policing in Scotland and within the communities we serve.

The Association aims to deliver the vision by focusing on the following key areas:

  • Engagement – Maximise accessibility to services; support community events and work with partner organisations.
  • Communication – Promote awareness of the Association and its work both internally and externally.
  • Visibility – Raise the profile of LGBTI police officers and staff, their issues and the work of the association.
  • Membership – Encourage new members and offer opportunities for member involvement.
  • Governance – Develop effective strategies and policies that promote the vision of the association.

Scottish Police Disability & Carers Association

Membership is free and open to all police officers and police staff whether they have a disability, caring responsibility or are simply interested in supporting the association's aims.

The aims of the association are to:

  • Provide advice and support to officers and staff on disability and caring issues, through regular newsletters or briefings and networking events.
  • Work together with Police Scotland Safer Communities staff to promote issues to staff and other partner agencies as required.
  • Undertake research and provide feedback to Police Scotland and the SPA on policies, procedures and initiatives which may impact on those with disabilities or carers, either within or out with the organisation.
  • Co-ordinate and consult with external partner agencies nationally and locally, in respect of the service provision of Police Scotland to those with disabilities or caring responsibilities.

Semper Scotland

Supporting Ethnic Minority Police Staff for Equality in Race (SEMPER) Scotland is the primary staff association that exists to support and represent all minority ethnic employees on issues of equality in race, and to ensure that the Scottish Police Authority and Police Service of Scotland uphold the principles and practices of racial equality.

SEMPER Scotland is committed to inspiring a diverse and inclusive workforce that fully represents the changing demographics of Scottish communities to underpin policing and criminal justice that are essential for a safe and secure society in a flourishing nation.

SEMPER Scotland believes in and supports the vision of a THRIVING Scotland achieved through participation, inclusion and equality.

Central and Eastern European Police Association

The aims of the association are to:

  • To form an inclusive and accessible network to provide support to Police Officers and Police Staff originating from Central and Eastern European countries within the Police Service across Scotland.
  • To support organisational learning in relation to the recruitment and retention of Central and Eastern European Officers and Staff within the Police Service across Scotland.
  • To support organisational learning in relation to the development of policy where there may be specific impact on Central and Eastern European communities in Scotland.
  • To enhance relations between Central and Eastern European communities in Scotland and the Police Service through improved community engagement.
  • To Promote Police Scotland and the understanding of Scottish Criminal Justice among the Central and Eastern European communities in Scotland to increase confidence and encourage reporting.

Scottish Police Muslim Association

Scottish Police Muslim Association (SPMA) is an organisation dedicated to supporting Muslim Police officers & staff and existing as a bridge between the Police service and Muslim communities.

The SPMA aims to build a strong, inclusive and cohesive working Relationship between the Police Service of Scotland and the diverse Muslim communities, across Scottish in the Development and delivery of services, support, policies and Practice that demonstrate equality, dignity, respect and nurture a positive understanding and acceptance of faith Diversity and tolerance for all citizens and staff.

The aims of the association are to:

  • Provide direct grassroots support to Muslim police officers and staff members.
  • Provide strategic level direction to the Police service and other agencies in policy development.
  • Provide knowledge on Islamic matters, forge a stronger relationship between the Muslim community and the Police.
  • Advise the Scottish Police and all police officers and staff on issues in relation to Islam and the diverse Muslim community.
  • Be a conduit between the Muslim community across Scotland and the Scottish Police service.
  • Promote dialogue and engagement between the Muslim youth and the Police service.
  • Encourage Faith communities, in developing an inter-faith dialogue around tolerance, law & order and respect for Diversity.
 

Scottish Women's Development Forum

Established in 2003 the Scottish Women's Development Forum (SWDF) was a working group of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland. Upon creation of Police Scotland the SWDF became a diversity staff association. Our aim is to assist and support Police Scotland and the Scottish Police Authority to provide a positive working environment which enables everyone to reach their full potential.

The aims of the association are to:

  • Acting as a consultative body on behalf of the Police Scotland and Scottish Police Authority in relation to gender equality issues.
  • Considering equality impact issues developing within Police Scotland and Scottish Police Authority.
  • Seeking solutions to ensure that there are no barriers to the personal and professional development of all staff.
  • Monitoring organisational change within the Police Scotland and Scottish Police Authority for any risk to fair and equal opportunities.

National Trans Police Association

The NTPA exists primarily to provide support to serving and retired Police Officers, Police Staff and Special Constables with any gender identity issue including, but not exclusively, Trans Men, Trans Women, people who identity as 'Transgender', Androgyne or Intersex.

Also the NTPA will give support to people who identify as Cross Dressers. The NTPA further aims to provide support to all serving and retired police officers, police staff and special constables who are dealing with people with a gender identity issue whether that person is a colleague, family member or a member of the public involved in a police matter.

The NTPA also exists to represent the views of its members on matters of policy within the UK police service concerning Trans Police Officers, Police Staff and Special Constables and to assist in and encourage their recruitment retention and progression within the Service.

The NTPA aspires to speak for the wider Trans Community on Police related matters and to help foster better relations between the UK Police Service and the Trans Community as a whole.

 

 

Gypsy Roma Traveller Police Association

The GRTPA is a support network for Police Personnel who are from a GRT background. The GRTPA's main aim is to unite and support all Police Officers and Staff who are from GRT background. The main aim of the GRTPA is the desire to foster good relationships between the Police and GRT Communities. We aim to do this by facilitating discussion, negotiation and co'operation between UK Police Forces, GRT communities and organisations. In doing so, we will establish a platform for sharing good practice in working with GRT Communities.

The aims of the association are to:

  • Provide a support network for members of staff who are Gypsy Roma or Traveller.
  • Challenge myths and discrimination and provide education by way of lectures, classes, seminars, training courses and other such informative events.
  • Share good practice with other bodies and organisations whether in this country or overseas.
  • Promote and carry out research, surveys and investigations.
  • Work in partnership with other charities, voluntary bodies and statutory agencies seeking to further the same or similar objectives.
  • Act as a conduit for discussion, negotiation and co-operation between UK Police Services, minority organisations, bodies, groups or communities.
  • Assist in the development of new and existing policies where necessary.
  • To link in with our colleagues from other EU countries.

Christian Police Association

Founded in 1883 by Catherine Gurney, OBE, the Christian Police Association now has branches in the majority of police areas in the United Kingdom as well as maintaining links with similar groups overseas through the International Christian Police Fellowship.

Our mission:

  • A National Voice for Christians in Policing.
  • Encourage and support Christians in the Police Service.
  • Communicate in words and action, the truth, message and hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ to colleagues and the community we serve.
  • Build bridges between the Christian community and the Police.

  • A National Charity which actively leads on issues relevant to Christians in Policing.
  • An active and growing branch of CPA in every Police Service in the UK and every Christian in the Police Service to fulfill their potential in Jesus Christ.

  • Police and Churches working together in every community to reduce crime and improve quality of life.
