Man jailed for 12 years for sexual offences in Lanarkshire
A man has been jailed for 12 years for sexual offences in Lanarkshire.
Brian Thom, 37, was found guilty of 17 charges, including rape, sexual and physical assaults, against two women in the Bearsden and Cambuslang areas between 2007 and 2021 at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday, 12 August, 2024.
On Monday, 10 March, 2025, he was sentenced at the same court to 12 years in prison and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Detective Inspector Gary Smillie, Lanarkshire Division Public Protection Unit, said: "Thom is a dangerous, violent man who subjected these women to horrendous ordeals. He now faces a lengthy period in prison as a result.
"I would like to commend the women for their strength in coming forward to report his offending and throughout the legal process. I hope this conclusion will help them as they move forward with their lives.
"I'd urge anyone who has been a victim of physical or sexual abuse to report it to us, regardless of when it happened. All reports are thoroughly investigated and we have specially trained officers and partner agencies who will support you throughout."
