New officers step forward to join Police Scotland
Chief Constable Jo Farrell and other members of Police Scotland’s chief office team, today, Thursday, 13 March, 2025, thanked the latest cadre of probationers for stepping forward to keep communities safe.
The 123 new recruits, 72 men and 51 women, who bring officer establishment to 16,631, made their Police Constable declaration at oath of office ceremonies across the country and will be ready for operational deployment on 16 June this year.
The Chief Constable addressed probationers at a regional ceremony in Dundee while Deputy Chief Constable Jane Connors addressed the new recruits at Police Scotland Headquarters, Tulliallan. Local senior officers attended the other ceremonies to witness the probationers being sworn in at regional training centres in the communities they will deploy to on successful conclusion of their training.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell said: “Our new constables are now ready to begin their policing career and I thank them for stepping forward to help safeguard Scotland’s communities.
“Taking on the responsibilities and duties of a police officer is a deeply considered decision and taking the oath of office is a significant moment for our latest recruits. They are signing up to a hugely rewarding and demanding career – a job like no other.
“When they deploy to our communities on 16 June they must follow Police Scotland’s values of integrity, fairness, respect and a commitment to upholding human rights at all times.”
Of the intake, 18 have additional language skills including Czech, French, Hindi and Slovakian; 16 recruits have relatives who are serving as either police officers or members of Police Scotland staff, and 10 have previous military experience.
