Man seriously injured in crash on A75 at Carsluith

Road policing officers are appealing for information following a serious crash on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer Road.

Around 10.15pm on Friday, 18 April, 2025, police received a report of a collision involving an 18-year-old male pedestrian and a white Ford Transit van on the A75 at Carsluith.

Emergency services attended and the 18-year-old male was taken to hospital. He has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Officers traced the Ford Transit van, a short time later, on the A75 near to Benfield, Newton Stewart. The 28-year-old male driver and 33-year-old male passenger were uninjured.

A 28-year-old man was initially arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released pending further inquiries.

Enquiries carried out so far have established the 18-year-old, who was with a friend, had stopped to speak to the occupants of a vehicle on the A75 road prior to the collision and officers are appealing to the occupants of this vehicle to contact them.

The road was closed for a significant period to allow collision investigation to take place.

Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said: “We are in the process of piecing together the circumstances of this incident. A young man has been seriously injured and it’s important we find out what happened to him.

“I would urge the occupants of the vehicle that was on the road at the time to get in touch with us. I’m sure the information they have will prove significant in our enquiries.”
