Community officers tackle antisocial behaviour in Dundee
Police Scotland is working with partner agencies to address recent antisocial behaviour in Dundee.
Longhaugh Community Policing Team has taken the lead on project Safe Travel Initiative, supported by DCC anti-social behaviour teams, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), DCC community wardens and staff from Xplore Dundee.
This project utilised existing educational materials created by Police Scotland and SFRS and was delivered throughout the schools within Dundee, focusing initially on P6/7 and S1 students.
It comprised ‘real life’ impact statements delivered by employees of Xplore Dundee. There were also educational inputs from Police, SFRS and ASB team with regards to the distress, impact and financial cost that these events had on the company, their staff and the wider community.
These inputs are still currently ongoing, and the hope is they will continue to be delivered on a yearly basis going forward.
In addition, Police Scotland is working alongside the bus company to streamline the reporting process and detection rate by creating a single point of contact.
Sergeant Kate Forbes, Longhaugh Community Policing, said: "We are taking these crimes very seriously and I would urge anyone who comes across disorder to contact police. Antisocial behaviour and criminal acts will not be tolerated.
"Officers are carrying out routine patrols with particular attention to areas where this type of behaviour has been reported. Anyone found to be committing these offences will be dealt with appropriately.
"We understand the impact these crimes have on the local community, and I would like to thank locals who continue to bring these incidents to our attention. I would reassure them that everything possible is being done to reduce antisocial behaviour in our area.
"I would urge those responsible to think about their behaviour and what the outcome of their actions could be, and I am asking parents and guardians to make sure they know where their children are and to talk to them about the impact of this type of activity."
To report incidents of antisocial behaviour, contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
