Appeal following fatal crash on the A7 in Galashiels

Road policing officers are appealing for information following a fatal crash in Galashiels on Thursday, 31 October, 2024.

The incident happened around 10.55 am on the A7, Abbotsford Road, in the town and involved a black Seat Altea and a grey Honda CRV.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the Seat, an 83-year-old woman, was taken to Borders General Hospital and pronounced dead at short time later.

The driver of the Honda, a 78-year-old man, was taken to Borders General Hospital, along with three passengers, a 75-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed and re-opened around 3pm.

Sergeant Jennifer Niven said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. In addition if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then please contact us.”
