Man convicted following armed robbery in Aberdeen
A 50-year-old man has pleaded guilty to armed robbery at the High Court in Edinburgh today, Friday, 8 Novemeber, 2024.
Around 7.25pm on Tuesday, 2 July, 2024,John Gallagher entered a shop on Urquhart Road, Aberdeen, and threatened a member of staff with a knife.
Gallagher stole several packets of cigarettes before attempting to leave the store, where he was apprehended by officers.
Gallagher will return to court for sentencing later in the year.
Detective Inspector Andrew Machray said: "This was a frightening ordeal for the members of staff on shift at the shop and I would like to thank them for their assistance during the investigation.
"This conviction should send a clear message to the public that we will pursue those who think they are entitled to steal from others. We are committed to keeping our streets and communities safe and will use all resources at our disposal to do this.”
