Steven McMath jailed for sexual offences in Dumfries

A man has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of sexual offences in the Dumfries area.

Steven McMath, aged 24, committed these crimes against two women.

He was previously found guilty of rape and sexual assault charges following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow in April 2024 and returned for sentencing on Thursday, 23 May, 2024.

Detective Inspector Kelly Douglas, of the Public Protection Unit, said: “McMath is an abusive individual who showed no remorse for his abusive behaviour. I would like to commend the women for their bravery in coming forward during the investigation and I hope this outcome provides them with some sense of closure.

"If anyone is experiencing, or has experienced domestic or sexual abuse, please do not hesitate to contact us directly or through one of our partner agencies”.
