Probationary Constables sworn in as they join Police Scotland
Police Scotland this week welcomed 116 new officers as they took their oath of office at ceremonies across the country.
The new officers were sworn in at regional training centres in the communities they will deploy to after their 13 weeks of training.
The probationary Constables will also complete the first week of that training at the regional centres, receiving critical input on values, standards and behaviours, and equality and diversity.
The move is designed to support welfare by introducing new recruits to Police Scotland while allowing them to return home at night during initial induction days.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell said: “Today is a major milestone for our new probationers as they are sworn into the office of Constable and commit to the responsibilities and duties of a police officer.
“I ask them to have the highest standards and to always have our values of integrity, fairness, respect and a commitment to upholding human rights at the heart of all they do.
“Policing is a hugely rewarding and demanding vocation and I thank our new constables for stepping forward to help keep Scotland’s communities safe.”
The probationers made the Police Constable declaration to faithfully discharge their duties with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, and promised to uphold fundamental human rights.
They took their oaths at training centres in Aberdeen, Inverness, Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Police Scotland Headquarters, Tulliallan.
Scotland’s newest police officers will be ready to deploy to communities on 1 August 2024.
