A hedgerow in Broughty Ferry has been deliberately set on fire
Officers are appealing for information after a hedgerow was deliberately set on fire in Broughty Ferry.
Around 8.45pm on Friday, 17 May, 2024, police were made aware of a hedge on fire in the Castle Green area, at the boundary of the local bowling club.
Scottish Fire and Rescue attended, and the fire was extinguished, preventing it from potentially spreading to the adjacent building. Officers believe an item was thrown into the hedgerow with the intention of causing significant damage.
A group of young people were seen in the area around the time of the incident and a young male from this group threw the item into the hedgerow.
Inspector Jamie Allen said: “This would appear to have been an intentional act that thankfully, was dealt with quickly before the fire was able to take hold and spread with serious consequences to the local community. I am asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us. If anyone has dash cam or doorbell recording equipment, please check the footage and contact us if you have anything which could assist our investigation.”
“I would like to reassure the public that we have additional dedicated patrols in this area and anyone with concerns can approach these officers.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3956 of Friday, 17 May 2024. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
