Man who died in a crash on the M9 in the Stirling area named
A man who died following a crash on the M9 between junctions eight and nine in the Stirling area on Sunday, 7 July, has been named.
He was Declan Connell, aged 27, from Falkirk. His family has asked for privacy.
The incident happened around 11.50am when a white Vauxhall Corsa travelling southbound came off the road and landed down an embankment.
Prior to the collision the car had been involved in a police pursuit.
Emergency services attended and Mr Connell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two male passengers in the car, aged 19 and 20, were taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital to be checked over.
The circumstances surrounding the collision have been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.
The road was closed while officers carried out investigation work and partially re-opened around 10.30pm. The road was fully re-opened around 2.40pm on Monday, 8 July, 2024.
Chief Inspector Mark Patterson said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
“We are appealing for any witnesses, particularly motorists with dash-cam footage, to please get in touch.
