Man who died following collision in Oban named
The man who died following a collision in Oban has been named as Douglas Macarthur, aged 59, from the town.
Around 1.55am, on Thursday, 27 June, 2024 officers were called to the A85 in the Pennyfuir area, after the body of a man was found at the side of the road.
It was established he had been involved in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle in the George Street area a short time earlier.
The HGV and driver were later traced and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident.
Douglas’ family have released a statement via Police Scotland:
“The family is positively touched by all the messages of condolences and personal tributes to their much-loved brother and uncle. Doc (as he was more commonly known) was obviously held in high regard throughout the local community and beyond, who are united in grief.”
Inspector Roy McCarney, from the Dumbarton Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with Douglas’ family and friends at this difficult time. Officers continue to offer support as our investigations progress.
“Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances. I’d ask anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, to please come forward.”
