A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to six years and eight months in prison for violent and sexual offences on two women in Dundee. He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period of time.
Derek Gordon Lewis from Dundee was sentenced at the High Court in Stirling on Tuesday, 3 December, 2024 after he pled guilty to the offences at the High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday, 13 November, 2024.
The offences were committed against two women in Kirk Street and King Street, Dundee, on Tuesday, 20 February, 2024 with one of the women being sexually assaulted by him.
He pled guilty to another offence of causing fear and alarm to the occupants in a property in Panmure Street, Dundee, on the same date. He entered the property where the three occupants, who were not known to him, were within and took a knife from their kitchen drawer and then hid within their bathroom still in possession of the knife.
Detective Inspector Graeme Wishart said: "Derek Lewis is a dangerous and violent offender who committed these predatory crimes against two women in Dundee who were not known to him and who were both walking alone. He also caused considerable alarm to the occupants of the premises in Panmure Street, Dundee when he entered their flat.
"I hope that this outcome will offer his victims some level of closure as they move on with their lives. We thank the victims in this case for coming forward and their determination throughout the investigation.'
"Police Scotland are committed to investigating any form of violent or sexual abuse, regardless of when these crimes were committed and the passage of time.
