New driver road safety event to be held at Jackton Police College

Officers from our Road Policing Unit and colleagues from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will be hosting a road safety event at Jackton Police College for young drivers to encourage safe driving practices.

The event, on Tuesday, 10 September, will be held between 6pm (for a 6:30pm start) and 8pm.

The New Driver Early Intervention Scheme is aimed at new and young drivers aged between 17 and 25-years old, who are statistically more likely to be involved in a crash.

Officers will hold the session as part of efforts to improve road safety by raising awareness and encouraging discussion on the consequences of dangerous driving.

The session will also be an opportunity for young drivers to learn how to improve their driving skills, ensure a vehicle is roadworthy and hear about current legislation.

PC Fraser McEwan from the Motherwell Road Policing Unit, who is organising the event, said: “I’d encourage young and new drivers to come along to the event to learn more about driving safely.

“This event is an opportunity for us to remind young drivers about the responsibility they have holding a driving licence and, using our own experiences of attending serious and fatal collisions, highlight how easily it can go wrong on the roads.”
