Man convicted for dangerous driving in Aberdeenshire
A 32-year-old man has been convicted of dangerous driving following a crash in Aberdeenshire.
Gavin Coull was convicted on Thursday, 22 August, 2024 at Peterhead Sheriff Court after he was found guilty of causing the crash on the A90 near Ellon on Thursday, 11 March, 2021.
The crash happened around 10.20pm at the junction with the B9000 near Tipperty and involved a black BMW 318 and a red Ford Fiesta which were travelling southbound.
A 23-year-old woman, a passenger in the Fiesta, suffered serious injuries and its 24-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. The 28-year-old passenger of the BMW was not injured.
Police Sergeant Craig McNeill of the Road Policing Unit said: “This tragic crash resulted in life changing injuries to the woman involved. Coull’s disregard for road safety has had a devastating impact on her.
“He drove dangerously at excessive speed whilst under the influence.
“His actions highlight the devastating consequences of dangerous driving and the lasting impact it has on those involved, along with their families and friends.
"Drivers must obey speed limits and respect the safety of other road users. Drivers are responsible for their actions and the temptation to take risks can have severe and long-lasting consequences for everyone involved.”
