Advice update following fire at battery recycling site in Kilwinning
Emergency services have stood down from the scene following the response to a fire in Byrehill, Kilwinning.
Public health advice to shelter at home for nearby residents and keep windows and doors closed has been lifted.
The fire happened at a battery recycling centre on Monday, 8 April, 2024. Police were called around 11pm.
The multi-agency response included Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Public Health, NHS Ayrshire and Arran, North Ayrshire Council, Scottish Water and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
Police inquiries are ongoing and the multi-agency partnership will continue to meet as part of the recovery phase.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will carry out regular checks of the site area as standard to ensure the building remains safe.
