Investigation into a suspicious car fire in Port Seton
Officers are appealing for information after three vehicles were damaged in Port Seton, East Lothian.
Around 12.55am on Tuesday, 7 November 2023, police received a report a car was on fire in Laburnum Avenue in Port Seton. The vehicle, a Seat Arona, was deliberately set alight. Two vans, a Vauxhall Vivaro and Peugeot Partner, parked near to the Seat were also damaged with windows being smashed.
No-one was injured in the incident but houses on either side of the car sustained fire damage.
Enquiries carried out so far have established a light coloured Vauxhall Corsa was seen in the area at the time of the incident. Three figures were also seen at the time. They have slim builds and were wearing dark coloured trousers and dark coloured hooded tops.
Officers have also been checking relevant CCTV footage for any additional information.
Detective Constable John Lumsden said: “Fortunately, no-one was injured, however, it’s imperative we trace those responsible. I would appeal to residents to think back if they saw or noticed anything or anyone suspicious prior to the car being set on fire. I would also ask for anyone with recording equipment, such as dash cams or doorbell cameras, to check the footage. It could have images relevant to our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0187 of 7 November, 2023. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
