The 10th anniversary of the Clutha tragedy
Today (Wednesday, 29 November, 2023) marks the 10th anniversary of the Clutha tragedy.
Ten people lost their lives on 29 November 2013 after a police helicopter crashed into the Clutha bar in Glasgow.
A short ceremony took place at Police Scotland Headquarters, Tulliallan, to remember those who died and reflect on everyone affected by the tragedy.
Police officers, emergency services and representatives from Babcock and Glasgow City Council gathered to pay their respects.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell laid a wreath at the Scottish Police Memorial.
A private ceremony will also be held at the Air Support Unit base in Glasgow at 10.22pm – the exact moment the helicopter crashed.
The ten people who died included the pilot, Captain David Traill, two crew members - PC Kirsty Nelis and PC Tony Collins - and seven customers in the bar.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell said: “The thoughts of everyone in Police Scotland remain with the families and friends of all those who lost their lives and were affected by this tragedy.
“We remember our officers, PC Kirsty Nelis and PC Tony Collins, as well as pilot David Traill, of the Air Support Unit. The loss of our colleagues in such terrible circumstances is still felt across the organisation. It’s important we remember them, as well as the loss felt by everyone affected.
“Wednesday, 29 November, 2023 will mark 10 years since the tragic events at the Clutha bar. It’s a tragedy that Police Scotland will never forget.”
