Police tackling anti-social behaviour on buses in Fort William

Police in Fort William have been carrying out enquires in relation to incidents of anti-social behaviour on board a Shiel Bus in Fort William.

Officers have identified two of the youths responsible and engaged with them in the presence of their parents. Further enquiries to identify other youths are ongoing.

Sergeant Gavin Law, from the Fort William Problem Solving Policing Team, said: “Incidents like these impact all aspects of our local communities, not just drivers and passengers. It is disappointing to see a minority of youths in Fort William taking advantage of bus travel to engage in anti-social behaviour. We will continue to work jointly with our partner agencies to tackle these issues.

“Officers in Fort William will be conducting extra patrols over the Easter holidays, engaging with local youths, in an attempt to divert them away from anti-social behaviour. We are also in communication with Shiel Buses, asking their drivers to report any incidents to police, so we can investigate and take appropriate action.”

In March, 2023, Sergeant Law, along with partner agencies and youth groups, launched The Community Alcohol Partnership in Fort William.

Sergeant Law added: “The Partnership will work closely with local agencies and youth groups, taking a proactive approach through education and youth work, ensuring that young people are equipped to make the right decisions about issues including alcohol, anti-social and criminal behaviour.
