Motorists charged and warned following antisocial driving patrols in Elgin
Following local complaints about driver behaviour in Elgin, Road Policing officers and Special Constables conducted patrols targeting antisocial driving on Saturday, 11 March, 2023.
As a result, 14 motorists were charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with numerous road traffic and drugs offences.
A number of other motorists were issued with fixed penalty notices for offences including speeding and illegal vehicle modifications, whilst warnings were given in relation to antisocial behaviour and careless driving.
Two vehicles were seized by police during the patrols.
Inspector Neil Morrison, from the Elgin Community Policing Team, said: “Driving in an anti-social manner is dangerous and inconsiderate to nearby residents. We routinely carry out patrols in areas where we’ve received numerous complaints, and will continue to work with our local partners to address community concerns.
“We want those responsible for this behaviour to consider the possible consequences of their actions. Driving too fast, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or making illegal modifications to a vehicle can all contribute to serious road crashes. It is disappointing to see these crimes and offences occurring this weekend.
“We would urge anyone with concerns around antisocial driving or antisocial behaviour to contact police on 101. Or you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
