Road Policing officers engage with motorists in Shetland
Highlands and Islands Road Policing motorcyclists were in Shetland over the weekend (16-18 June) and attended at the Simmer Dim Rally, which took place at Ollaberry.
Officers spoke with over 150 motorcyclists over the days, as well as carrying out road safety patrols. A total of 30 other vehicles were also stopped, and a number of offences were dealt with, including those in relation to seatbelts, MOTs and insurance offences.
Constable Robbie Stewart, of Highlands and Islands Roads Policing, said: “Riding a motorbike can be a thrilling experience, but it can be more risky, as you naturally have less protection than in a car. It is vital that motorcyclists ride within their capabilities and never too fast for the conditions.
“If you have a friend or a loved one who is a keen biker, speak to them about being responsible and knowing their limits.
“If you are another road user, remember to be careful at junctions and look out for motorcyclists, especially in rural areas.”
