Update to Orkney 'Fair Warn' campaign
Orkney officers have issued an update on the ongoing Orkney 'Fair Warn' campaign, aimed at tackling anti-social and inconsiderate driving and parking in the region.
Since the launch of the campaign significant progress has been made, with close to 20 letters already sent to drivers who have been reported by concerned residents.
The Orkney 'Fair Warn' campaign has successfully engaged the community in identifying and reporting vehicles involved in anti-social and inconsiderate driving behaviours. Residents within the area have been actively participating in the campaign by noting down the make, model, colour, and registration of vehicles and reporting them to Police Scotland on 101, clearly stating their call is related to the Orkney 'Fair Warn' campaign.
Chief Inspector Scott Robertson, who has been overseeing the campaign, expressed his appreciation for the community's support and cooperation.
He said: "We are delighted with the response we have received so far from the residents of Orkney. Their vigilance and willingness to report incidents have been instrumental in the success of the campaign. We would like to extend our gratitude to each resident who has taken the time to participate."
Following a report of anti-social or inconsiderate driving or parking, letters are sent to the drivers. The letters serve as a reminder and a cautionary measure to encourage responsible driving. The drivers who received these letters have demonstrated an improved approach, as no follow-up letters have been necessary.
Officers wish to emphasise the importance of continued public participation in the 'Fair Warn' campaign, encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report any instances of anti-social and inconsiderate driving or parking they witness. This collaborative effort between the community and the police plays a vital role in maintaining road safety and promoting respectful driving behaviours throughout Orkney.
Chief Inspector Scott Robertson further added: "We are urging the public to continue their support by actively reporting incidents to us. Your involvement in the campaign contributes significantly to the ongoing efforts in creating a safer and more considerate road environment in Orkney.
"We appreciate the ongoing cooperation and partnership with the Orkney community and remain committed to working together to make a positive impact on road safety and the overall well-being of the community."
