Cocaine found in vehicle following drugs stop near Stranraer
Officers have arrested two men, and found approximately one kilogram of Class A drugs, following a vehicle stop near Stranraer.
At around 8.50pm on Tuesday, 11 July, 2023, the vehicle was sighted by police stationed on the A77 near Lochans. Officers signalled for it to stop however the driver continued on the A77 before turning onto an unclassified road. A short pursuit ensued before the vehicle crashed and the occupants fled the scene.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle, two men aged 19 and 26, were traced a short time later by officers nearby. They were unhurt and have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
A subsequent search of the vehicle by a drugs dog found Class A drugs with an estimated street value of up to £42,000.
Detective Inspector Graeme Robertson said: “This has been an excellent recovery which included officers from the local area in Response and CID, Roads Policing Officers, and a drugs dog from the nearby port unit, which was all coordinated by our control room officers as the incident unfolded.
“Preventing the sale and supply of controlled drugs is a key focus and we rely on information from the public to help us continue disrupt such crimes.
“The two men are due to appear in Stranraer Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 12 July, 2023.”
