Officers carried out operations on the roads in the north east to target anti-social driving
Operations targeting anti-social behaviour on north east roads were carried out between Thursday, 16 and Saturday, 18 February, 2023 in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire.
In response to local complaints about driver behaviour in both Turriff and similar complaints in the Garthdee area of Aberdeen, road policing and local officers carried out joint patrols to crackdown on this.
Following patrols in Garthdee between Thursday, 16 and Saturday, 18 February, 10 drivers are subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with road traffic and drugs offences. A number of other motorists were given warnings in relation to anti-social driving and careless driving.
During targeted patrols in Turriff between Friday 17 and Saturday, 18 February, officers issued 35 motorists with fixed penalty notices for road traffic offences including excessive speed and illegal modifications. A further three fixed penalty notices were issued for drivers with no insurance. One driver is also subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with road traffic offences.
Inspector Lorraine Mackie of the North East Road Policing Unit said: “It is disappointing that we have seen so many offences being detected in a short period of time.
“Anti-social driving is dangerous, illegal and also affects the quality of life to the local community. We have received longstanding complaints in these areas particularly regarding vehicles travelling at excess speed, overtaking dangerously, over-revving their engines disturbing residents and general anti-social and it will not be tolerated.
“We want those responsible to stop and think of the very serious consequences this behaviour could have. All the offences detected are known contributory factors to serious injury and fatal crashes.
“We will continue to challenge and educate road users to improve safety and reduce the number of injuries on our roads and take enforcement action where necessary.”
