More than 190 officers ready to deploy to Scotland's communities

Police Scotland’s newest cohort of officers is preparing to report for duty in communities across Scotland following completion of their first phase of training.

More than 190 officers took part in a passing out parade at Police Scotland Headquarters, Tulliallan, today (Friday, 8 December 2023) in front of family and loved ones, having completed their initial 12-week course.

Chief Constable Jo Farrell thanked the officers for their commitment to public service and underlined the values of Police Scotland.

Chief Constable Farrell said: “Today marks the conclusion of these officers’ initial training and they will now deploy across the country to help keep our communities safe.

“It is an important opportunity to thank officers for joining Police Scotland and to set a clear vision and expectations for their service.

“I believe passionately in the value that policing brings to our communities: keeping people safe from harm, protecting the vulnerable, bringing criminals to justice, solving problems and reducing offending. We stand up for and with our communities, which strengthens them, improves their wellbeing and allows them to prosper.

“Every member of our organisation should understand and share the same clear sense of direction to deliver an excellent and high quality service to the public.”

The recruits passing out today range in age from 18 to 52 years old and the course is comprised of 142 male officers (74 per cent) and 49 female officers (26 per cent).
