Police Scotland's newest officers complete initial training
Police Scotland’s newest officers are ready to serve their communities having completed their first phase of training.
188 constables took part in a passing out parade at Police Scotland headquarters, Tulliallan today (Friday, 18 August, 2023) watched by family and friends.
Deputy Chief Constable Designate Fiona Taylor QPM thanked the new officers for their dedication to serving the people and communities of Scotland, while reminding them of their responsibilities as a member of the police service.
DCC Designate Taylor said: “These constables have spent the last 12 weeks learning how to be a police officer, and now they will put their hard work into practice providing professional, effective and compassionate policing for our communities.
“Our officers are held to extremely high standards. Our values of integrity, fairness, respect, alongside our commitment to upholding human rights must be core to every action and decision as they carry out their duties.
“My sincere thanks to everyone who commits themselves to public service through policing. The dedication of our officers and staff is shown on a daily basis. I know the importance of having the backing of family and friends, and my gratitude goes to all those who encourage and support our newest officers.”
The recruits passing out today range in age from 18 to 51 years old. The course is comprised of 132 male officers (70 per cent) and 56 female officers (30 per cent).
Course members have a range of language skills, including officers who are fluent in Italian, Urdu, Polish, Thai and Croatian, and conversational Spanish, French, Italian and Gaelic.
