Free tickets available for "Fit for the Road" event in Ayrshire
Free spaces still available for the "Fit for the Road" experienced driver road safety event.
The scheme, run by the Ayrshire Roads Alliance (a partnership with East and South Ayrshire Councils) and North Ayrshire Council road safety teams, will include presentations from Police Scotland Road Policing, Urquhart Opticians and Scottish Fire and Rescue.
Local members of RoSPA Advanced Drivers are offering assessed drive in your own vehicle. You cannot fail the assessed drive, however you must ensure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition and has enough fuel for a 30-45 minute drive. The assessment must be booked in advance.
There will also be the opportunity to try Highway Code Theory and Hazard Perception tests, test brake reaction times and speak to other partner agencies including, but not limited to, the Scottish Ambulance Service, Safety Camera Partnership, and South Ayrshire Council Thriving Communities.
The event will take place on Tuesday, 22 August, 2023 at The Marine Hotel in Troon. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance for either the morning or afternoon sessions by visiting the Eventbrite website and typing ‘Fit for the Road’ into the search box.
Inspector Craig Beaver of Ayrshire Road Policing Unit said: "This is a very worthwhile free event.
“I encourage experienced drivers to get signed up and take advantage of the resources available. It’s never too late to learn something new."
