Road policing officers and Safety Camera staff in the Highlands carried out enforcement between Friday, 14 April and Sunday, 16 April, 2023 on the NC500 route.
A total of 25 speed-related offences were detected over the weekend. A number of these will be referred to the Procurator Fiscal, whilst other drivers were issued with fixed penalties.
Amongst these, one driver was detected travelling at 95mph within a 70mph on the A9 near to Tore. Two drivers were detected at 97mph and 91mph, within a 60mph speed limit on the A832 near Achnasheen. Three drivers were detected travelling at 89mph, 89mph and 83mph within a 60mph speed limit on the A9 near Helmsdale.
Police Sergeant Calum MacAulay of the Road Policing Unit said: “Travelling above the speed limit allows each driver less time to react to hazards that appear on the road. That includes on roads which drivers know well.
“A crash involving speed affects more than just you and your car – it also impacts your family, the victim’s family, the emergency services and those who witness it.”
