Three man spotted trying to steal catalytic converters
An investigation is under way following the attempted theft of catalytic converters in Greenock.
Officers are appealing for information after three incidents were reported to them.
Around 8.45pm, on Thursday, 27 April, police received a report attempts had been made to steal the catalytic convertor from a Honda vehicle parked at Rankin Court, Greenock. Three men were seen at the location.
One man was wearing dark clothing, a black mask and red gloves. The second male was wearing a grey/blue jacket with dark coloured trousers and orange gloves. There is limited information on the third man, but he was wearing a white face mask. The men ran off causing damage to the vehicle.
A further incident of attempted theft was reported at 10.45pm Smithy Court, Inverkip. The suspects were disturbed and ran off.
Around 11.00 pm, the same evening police received a report of three men trying to steal a catalytic converter in Greenock Road, Largs. A member of the public disturbed the suspects who ran off.
Inspector Paul Thompson said: “Extensive enquiries are under way to identify and locate these men. I would like to appeal to local residents in those areas to contact us with any information they may have. In particular, I would ask anyone with dashcam or other recording devices to check the footage as it could hold images which could be helpful to our investigation.

The public is being asked to be alert to such crimes and to take steps to safeguard their property namely;
- Park your motor vehicle in a well-lit area – covered by CCTV if possible
- Use anti-theft devices
- Encourage your neighbours to join up to a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme
- Phone the police or anonymously via Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 with any information that could help in identifying people intent on these types of crimes
- The police do not advise members of the public to approach suspects themselves but instead should call the police with any descriptions, registration numbers of any vehicles involved and what direction if any they make off in.
