Appeal after crash on the A9 in Sutherland

Road policing officers are appealing for information after a serious crash on the A9 in Sutherland.

The crash involved three vehicles and happened a short distance south of Portgower shortly after 7.45am on Wednesday, 21 September.

The 36-year-old male driver of a red Renault Megane suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening,

A 32-year-old male passenger from a white Mercedes Sprinter van was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment to serious injuries. He has since been discharged. The driver of the van was uninjured.

The other vehicle involved was a white Vauxhall Vivaro van. The driver and passenger, both men, were uninjured.

The road reopened around 2.10pm after an investigation at the scene.

Sergeant Ally Mackay from the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to come forward.

“We would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw the vehicles on the road prior to the crash or who may have dashcam footage.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 0466 of 21 September.”
