Bogus workman incident under investigation in Kilmarnock
Detectives are appealing for information following a bogus workman incident in Ayrshire.
Around 6pm on Wednesday 5 October, 2022, a man came to the door of an 80-year-old woman in Kennedy Drive, New Farm Loch in Kilmarnock, pretending to be a workman and gained access to her property.
The man is white, gaunt in appearance, with a slim build. He was wearing orange work clothes and said he was from the water company.
The lady managed to get the man to leave her house before he had a chance to steal anything, however, she has been left badly shaken by the experience.
Officers have been gathering relevant CCTV footage from in and around the area for any additional information on the man.
Detective Constable Darren McDaid said: “I am asking everyone in the area to be on the look-out for any suspicious activity and to be extra vigilant when people come to your door. It’s possible this man may have approached other home-owners in the area or may have been spotted in other streets around this area. These people have no conscience and it’s imperative we prevent them from preying on vulnerable people in our communities.”
Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Kilmarnock Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 2514 of 6 October, 2022. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give your information anonymously.
