Drugs worth more than £100k recovered from vehicle on the M8

Around 2.30pm on Thursday, 12 May, Police Scotland officers acting on intelligence, stopped a Ford car on the M8 near Harthill and recovered a quantity of drugs.

The drugs, believed to be heroin, have an estimated street value of £102.000.

A 65-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with this recovery and is due before Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday, 13 May. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Inspector Laura Sands of Lanarkshire Division said: “This was a significant drugs recovery that has taken £102,000 worth of drugs off the streets of Scotland.

“Serious and organised crime brings misery to those living in our local communities and I want to reassure the public that we will continue to use every resource and tactic at our disposal to disrupt this kind of activity and stop these illegal substances reaching our streets.
