Appeal for information following a bogus caller incident in Kilwinning

Detectives are appealing for information following a bogus workman incident in Kilwinning on Monday, 30 May, 2022.

Around 11.25am, a man, saying he was from a utility company, approached a house in Irvine Road, Kilwinning. He gained access to the property and stole a three-figure sum of money from the house.

The man used a ruse to keep both householders, aged 86 and 81, occupied while he looked around for money.

The man is white, around 5ft 10 to 6 ft tall, with a slim build and light/grey coloured hair. He was wearing blue jeans, dark coloured trainers, a waist-length jacket, a covid mask and a dark coloured baseball cap.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and forensic officers have been to the home of the couple for any additional information they can find regarding the suspect.

Detective Constable Ross Keenan said: “I would ask local residents in that area to think back and consider if they saw this man, did he try and gain access to any other homes? His behaviour is shameful, targeting elderly members of our communities. If you have any information, please do pass it on as we work to identify who this man is.”

Chief Inspector Alan Paterson said “I would take this opportunity ask householders and relatives of elderly people to be aware of this incident and remain vigilant. Check on family members and neighbours and if you see anything which you think is suspicious or bogus, please get in touch with us.”
