Peter Renton sentenced for serious sexual offences in Aberdeen, Musselburgh and Edinburgh
Peter Renton (39) has been sentenced to nine years and three months in prison at the High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday, 9 March, after being found guilty of serious sexual offences.
Between April 2019 and June 2021, Renton carried out serious sexual assaults and assaults on two women in the Aberdeen, Musselburgh and Edinburgh areas.
Following an investigation by detectives, Renton was arrested at his home in Edinburgh on Friday, 2 July, 2021. He was found guilty of a number of serious offences at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, 27 January, 2022.
Detective Constable Jade Wardell from Dalkeith Police Station said: “Renton subjected these women to sustained sexual abuse over a number of months and he is now facing the consequences of his despicable actions. This sentencing sends a clear message that anyone found guilty of offences of this nature will be brought to justice.
“His victims were incredibly brave to come forward to report Renton then give evidence in court. Our thoughts remain with them and I hope that his sentencing will give them some comfort and help them move forward.
“We remain committed to supporting victims of sexual crimes and thoroughly investigating those responsible by bringing them to justice, no matter how much time has passed. I would urge people to come forward to police and report it. They can be assured of being fully supported by officers and partner agencies.”
