Man jailed after admitting role in supply of drugs
A 43-year-old man has been jailed for four years and six months after admitting involvement in the supply of drugs.
Anthony Haggarty had been arrested after a co-ordinated day of activity targeting a number of addresses in Glasgow in May, 2020 which led to more than £300,000 worth of Class A drugs and cash being recovered.
Haggarty pleaded guilty to being involved in the supply of drugs at the High Court in Glasgow in February and was jailed today (Thursday, 10 March, 2022).
Intelligence about Haggarty’s activity had been obtained during Operation Venetic – regarded as the most significant ever UK operation into serious and organised crime involving Police Scotland, the National Crime Agency and police forces across the UK.
Detective Chief Superintendent Stuart Houston said: “This seizure undoubtedly caused significant disruption to the local supply chain, of which Haggarty was a significant figure.
“Police Scotland will not allow criminals and organised crime groups to profit from other people’s misery and this case is a good example of how we utilise our resources along with the expertise of partner agencies to disrupt this kind of activity.
“We know that individuals and communities are deeply affected by the drugs trade and do not tolerate the harm it brings..
“Anyone who has information or concerns about the sale and supply of drugs in their community is urged to contact Police Scotland via 101. Alternatively, if you’d prefer to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
