Man found guilty of David Newton murder
A 44-year-old man has been convicted of murder following the death of David Newton in Airdrie on Sunday, 7 March, 2021.
Jorgo Pano (pictured) was found guilty at the High Court in Glasgow today (Friday, 11 March, 2022) and sentenced to life, with a minimum of 16 years in jail.
David Newton, 49, died in hospital the day after he was attacked at his own home, on McAlister Avenue, by his neighbour, Pano.
Pano was initially arrested and charged with attempted murder but following Mr Newton’s death, was then charged with murder.
Detective Inspector Gordon Sneddon said: “We welcome the conviction and immediate sentencing today of Jorgo Pano. This was a senseless attack on a man in his own garden. David Newton was a family man and well liked in the local community. We hope this outcome will be of some comfort to David’s family and friends.”
