Officers investigate the attack of a man in Buchanan Street

Officers are appealing for information after an unprovoked attack in the city centre of Glasgow.

Around 3pm on Thursday, 3 March, 2022, a 41-year-old man was with a friend, walking up Buchanan Street, when he was verbally abused by a man and then seriously assaulted. The suspect then ran off up Buchanan Street towards the Royal Concert Hall.

The victim and his friend were assisted by people at the scene and they made their way to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The suspect is white, with a stocky build, bald head and in his 40s. He was wearing dark clothing and was carrying a tan-coloured puppy.  He was also in the company of a female.

Officers are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage for additional information but are appealing to members of the public who were in Buchanan Street yesterday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Stuart Gillies said: “This has been a despicable and utterly unprovoked attack on a man visiting the city centre. This is not acceptable behaviour and we are determined to locate the man responsible. I know there were lots of people milling about in Buchanan Street yesterday and I am appealing to them to get in touch with us. We cannot allow these people to get away with such violence. If you saw anything that you think will help us, please get in touch, even if you’re not sure if it’s relevant, let us be the judge and pass it on.”
