Appeal following bogus workman incident in Irvine
Police in North Ayrshire are appealing for information after a bogus workman incident in Irvine.
Around 3pm on Tuesday, 1 March, 2022, a man attended at a property in the Castlepark area and told the elderly female occupant that he was there to do work on her water system. The man subsequently stole the woman’s bag and left the property.
Detective Constable Robbie McIntosh, of Saltcoats CID, said: “This is an appalling crime that targeted an elderly woman. We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area.
“These criminals are often extremely plausible and we are asking people in the community to be on their guard and be aware of bogus workmen in the area.
“I would advise the local community to be vigilant when approached by anyone offering this kind of work. Always ask for credentials and never hand over money upfront. If you are not sure about the price they are charging consider getting a second opinion.
“If you think anyone is being targeted by bogus workmen or have any concerns please contact us or speak to an officer direct.”
This appears to be an isolated incident.
Anyone who can assist with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1897 of 1 March, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
