Police Scotland is delighted to recognise a local lady in Glenrothes for her selfless work in the local community.
The recipient is Ann Marie Scanlon, a pupil support assistant at Collydean Primary School. For 21 years Ann Marie has been supporting and helping vulnerable children and adults.
Ann Marie works full-time, yet she gladly gives her time and effort to volunteer in the community. She volunteers as a detached youth worker for Collydean Community Centre, a community volunteer for Glenrothes North and has, over the years, organised numerous clubs and events for children, steering them away from antisocial behaviour. One of her events, Friday evening football, has had up to 70 young people turning up, choosing to play sport together and learning about teamwork, communication, as well as keeping fit.
A great number of people have benefited from Ann Marie’s commitment and dedication.
The award was presented to Ann Marie by Inspector Kirk Donnelly, at the year-end assembly. He said: “It’s a privilege to present this award and my congratulations to Ann Marie, whose ongoing work is being acknowledged. She is well-known in the community for her kindness, generosity and selflessness in helping and supporting others.
"As part of the Deputy Chief Constable Partnership Funding and as chosen by the Local Area Commander it is my pleasure to recognise the work that is done by volunteers in our community and their contribution to keeping Glenrothes safe.
"I know that Ann Marie’s hard work and effort has deterred many young people away from antisocial behaviour and I look forward to recognising some of the other outstanding work that takes place in the Glenrothes community."
Head Teacher, Rhona Leishman, said: "Ann Marie’s heart shows no end of kindness and I know she is shocked and humbled to receive this award. We are delighted her efforts have been rewarded and wish her our warmest congratulations."
Inspector Donnelly also presented a cheque to Collydean Community Centre in order to fund the football project for another year and enable equipment and clothing to be purchased for the young people who attend.
