Constables to serve communities following initial training
Almost 300 Police Scotland recruits will deploy to communities around the country having completed their initial training.
Deputy Chief Constable Fiona Taylor QPM thanked and congratulated 292 probationary constables during a passing out parade at Police Scotland Headquarters, Tulliallan, on Friday, 8 July.
Following the initial 12-week course, officers will continue their two year probationary period serving their fellow citizens and learning from tutor constables and peers.
Hundreds of loved ones were able to watch the parade today in-person, as well as online. This is the first time family and friends have been able to physically attend the ceremony since before the pandemic.
DCC Taylor said: “I’m grateful to our probationary constables for stepping-forward to serve their fellow citizens. Policing is a demanding but hugely rewarding vocation.
“These constables have joined our shared purpose to improve the lives of Scotland’s people and communities. That mission is underpinned by Police Scotland’s values of integrity, fairness, respect and a commitment to upholding human rights.
“Today’s passing out parade is an important opportunity to underline these values, which stand for equality and stand against discrimination.
“Those who step-forward to join Police Scotland can make a real difference. Careers in policing help individuals to grow professionally and personally, with a wide range of roles available and the possibility of promotion through our ranks.”
DCC Taylor added: “It is hugely positive to welcome many families and friends to our headquarters on this significant day for their loved ones. Their support will be important throughout the careers of our officers.”
The newly qualified cohort is comprised of 161 male officers (55 per cent) and 131 female (45 per cent). The youngest member of the course is 19, while the oldest is 51.
Police officer recruitment is open all year round. New intakes occur every three months and applications can be submitted at any time. More information about joining Police Scotland can be found here.
