Anthony Newman sentenced for drugs offences in the Aberdeen area
A 31-year-old man was sentenced on Tuesday, 5 July, for the supply of Class A and Class B drugs in the Aberdeen area.
Anthony Newman (31) was sentenced to four years in prison at the High Court in Edinburgh following an intelligence-led operation that led to the seizure of over £130,000 worth of controlled drugs being taken off the streets.
The operation began in January this year, when officers searched a flat in Palmerston Road, Aberdeen. During that search, officers recovered a quantity of Cocaine with a potential street value of £124,000.
Officers then searched a further two addresses in Jasmine Terrace and Short Loanings, Aberdeen where a quantity of Cannabis with an estimated street value of £6,500 was recovered.
Newman was arrested and charged in connection with these recoveries and was found guilty of drugs supply offences on Friday, 10 June.
Detective Inspector Robin Sim of the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit said: “We welcome the conviction and sentencing of Newman for his involvement in the supply of controlled drugs.
“This operation resulted in drugs with a potential street value of over £130,000 being seized in Aberdeen. We would like to send a clear message to anyone who is involved in the supply of drugs onto the streets of Scotland that if you expect to profit from other people’s misery, then expect to be targeted. We will use all resources at our disposal to target those involved in the drugs supply chain, recover illegal substances and disrupt the supply chain.
“The public continue to play a vital role in assisting our investigations into drugs related activity and anyone with concerns about drugs, or who has information about those involved in this type of crime should contact Police Scotland through 101. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
