Couple robbed of their vehicle in Kilmarnock
Police in Ayrshire are investigating after a couple were robbed of their vehicle in Kilmarnock.
The incident happened around 6.25pm on Wednesday 5 January, 2022, in Low Glencairn Street at the junctions of Maggie’s Bar and Kitchen and the Lidl Supermarket.
A male was walking in the area, intentionally damaging cars and struck a blue Mazda 2 vehicle.
This resulted in the occupants getting in an altercation with the suspect who entered the car and drove off in it.
The victims attempted to stop the car being stolen and were briefly dragged along the street sustaining minor injuries.
At around 7pm on the same evening the car was found on fire within Tarryholm Drive, Irvine.
Inquiries are underway to identify the male responsible and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
He is described as white, between 20 and 30-years-old with a slim but muscular build, short hair and wearing a blue jumper. It is believed he had previously been in the company of a woman in her twenties with a larger build.
Detective Inspector Andrea Templeton from Kilmarnock CID said: “Fortunately neither of the victims were seriously injured, but this was still a very frightening ordeal for them and it was made all the more distressing because of the theft of their vehicle.
“We are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to identify the suspect and would ask anyone who recognises him, or who witnessed this incident, to contact police immediately.
“Similarly, if your vehicle was in Lower Glencairn Street, Kilmarnock, or Taryholm Drive, Irvine during the evening of Wednesday 4 January and has dash-cam footage that may be able to assist with our investigation, then please also get in touch.”
