The Chief Constable's Bravery and Excellence 2021
The outstanding bravery and excellent work of police officers, staff and members of the public has been celebrated during a ceremony today (25 February).
Included among 57 recipients were a team dedicated to tackling online child sexual abuse and exploitation, officers who demonstrated outstanding bravery against violent perpetrators and members of the public who put their own lives in danger to rescue others.
The awards, presented by Chief Constable Iain Livingstone QPM, took place online for the nominees and their families.
Chief Constable Livingstone said: "The last 12 months has been an intense and demanding year, underlining the relentless nature of policing.
"Officers and staff have continued to meet the needs of our communities as well as successfully policing the COP26 climate change summit, one of the largest operations in the United Kingdom’s history.
“Helping those in crisis goes to the heart of policing’s core values and purpose. Today’s awards remind us of the individual acts undertaken to that end every day, right across Scotland.
“Equally, we recognise acts of bravery by members of the public who have gone above and beyond what can be expected of a citizen. I am deeply grateful to them for their courage - stepping-forward when necessity arose.”
Mr Livingstone added: “The recipients of the Chief Constable’s Award underlines the changing nature of the needs of our communities.
“The requirement for policing to build capability and capacity to respond effectively to threat, risk and harm in the virtual space has become ever clearer. Tackling Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation is a priority for Police Scotland.
"I offer my warmest congratulations to all the recipients and everyone nominated for awards today and thank them for their outstanding work and bravery.”
Kerry McMahon-White, Head of Partnerships at Police Mutual who sponsor the awards, said: “Police Mutual is very proud to again be supporting the Chief Constable’s Bravery and Excellence Awards.
"To each nominee, your achievements are extraordinary. You are an inspiration and a credit to the service and I, and all my colleagues at Police Mutual would like to offer our thanks to those who are nominated as well as congratulations to the winners."
