Man charged after recovery of drugs in Cairnryan estimated to be worth £1.1m
Police Scotland can confirm that a quantity of drugs have been recovered from Cairnryan thanks to the work of Police Dog Gizmo.
PD Gizmo and his handler were carrying out routine checks and searched a lorry at Cairnryan Main Terminal around 3am on Wednesday, 10 August, 2022, recovering cannabis with an estimated street value of £1.1million.
The 46-year-old male driver was been arrested and charged in connection with drug supply offences and is expected to appear at court on Thursday, 11 August, 2022.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Tackling illegal drugs and removing them from our communities is a priority for Police Scotland and part of that is targeting the transport routes used to courier drugs.
“We will continue to work to stop criminals bringing harm and misery to our communities.
"We rely on the support of the public to build intelligence on drug-related issues so that we can act on their concerns.
“We would urge anyone who is aware of any information about the supply of drugs to report the matter to police on 101, or anonymously through independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
