Levenmouth anti-social behaviour campaign returns for spring and summer 2022
After the proven success of previous years, Police Scotland have relaunched the Improving Levenmouth Together campaign for a fourth year.
The project is focussed on tackling anti-social behaviour in the Levenmouth area and improving the lives and wellbeing of those across the community. Working with local partners, this year’s Improving Levenmouth Together programme was launched on Friday, 1 April and is set to run to October.
As part of the programme, two police officers, funded by Fife Council and Police Scotland, will be dedicated to tackling anti-social behaviour across Levenmouth communities. The officers will be responsible for the prevention of anti-social behaviour, tackling offenders, and also looking to divert offenders from committing crime in the future.
The project has been in place since 2019 and has led to a 70% reduction in calls to Police Scotland relating to anti-social behaviour in Levenmouth, between 2018 and 2021.
Between 1st April 2021 and 31st October 2021, the dedicated enforcement team, worked both reactively and pro-actively achieving the following results:
• 36 vehicles seized – including motorbikes, cars and a quads.
• 311 people charged in connection with anti-social behaviour and road traffic offences.
• 5 drug search warrants executed, recovering a quantity of drugs
• 4 stolen vehicles recovered.
Inspector Paul Gillespie commented:
“I am delighted to launch this year’s Improving Levenmouth Together project. The commitment and dedication of Fife Council Local Area Committee to support our aims and objectives, and the continued support of our fantastic partners, is ensuring this project continues to deliver for the people of Levenmouth. The key objective this year is to continue with tackling offenders responsible for committing anti-social behaviour in our communities, implement key prevention tactics, and also ensure we provide alternative options in our communities for our young people to engage and thrive.
“We are working with partners to provide improved provisions, complimenting existing services, in terms of employability, mental health, drug and alcohol addiction. We are also working with a variety of partners, to work with young people in our communities, introducing programmes and activities, which will allow them to partake in meaningful activity and gain valuable life skills and qualifications.
“We will be introducing a CCTV system across our local hotspots over the coming months, which will ensure people feel safe in their communities. Police Scotland are dedicated to working with our partners across the sectors to improve lives across Levenmouth. With the forthcoming introduction of Levenmouth Rail Project and the River Leven project, it is an exciting time to be involved in the Levenmouth community.”
