Teenager charged with dangerous driving on A1 near Lamberton, Scottish Borders
Following collaboration with Northumbria Police, Police Scotland has charged a 19-year-old man in connection with two speeding incidents on the A1.
Two separate offences were committed in August and September 2021 on sections of the roadway near Lamberton. In the first instance, the vehicle reached 144mph on a southbound section. A subsequent incident in September saw the vehicle detected at 150mph on a dual carriageway section.
The driver of a black VW Polo GTI has been traced and charged in connection with the two speeding incidents, along with dangerous driving.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Sergeant Mark Banner from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Dangerous and careless driving are both key factors in fatal and serious injury collisions on the roads and our enforcement focuses on tackling these risky driving behaviours, along with speeding, drink and drug driving and mobile phone use offences.
“We all have a responsibility to drive safely every time we take to the roads and with consideration for all other road users.”
