Serious assault, Telford Road, East Kilbride
Detectives are appealing for information after a serious assault which occurred in East Kilbride in the early hours of Tuesday, 12 October, 2021.
Around 2.55am a large group of people were causing a disturbance at the underpass in Telford Road.
A local woman, aged 57, came out of her home to ask them to keep the noise down and was assaulted.
After witnessing this, a 68-year-old man came out to assist the woman and was assaulted with a weapon.
The group dispersed and emergency services were called.
The 68-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for a head injury.
The 57-year-old woman did not require hospital treatment.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident, and was released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
Detective Constable Gary Milligan from Cambuslang CID said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and I am appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
“In particular I would like to speak to any local residents who saw a group of men and woman causing a disturbance in the area, or who may have private CCTV footage.
“I would also ask any motorists with dash-cams who were travelling through at the time to please check their footage in case they have captured anything which could be of significance.
