Lesmahagow police station co-locates with town's fire station
Lesmahagow police station has now been co-located with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in the town’s local fire station.
Proposals to co-locate the police station have long been in development. The former police station had limited flexibility to sustain the current operational policing demands and needs of the local community.
The co-location will now provide the dedicated community police officers with new permanent, secure and self-contained accommodation and paves the way for decommissioning of the old police station to begin.
Local area commander, Chief Inspector Lex Baillie said: “One of the key objectives of Police Scotland's Estate Strategy is to co-locate and collaborate more with our emergency service partners, enabling joint responses and quicker, better outcomes for the public.
“I would like to reassure the local community there will be no change in the quality of policing and no change in the quality of service they have come to expect from their local officers.
“Lesmahagow fire station is already a well-established community landmark and it offers local policing new fit for purpose accommodation and a flexibility which our old premises could not.
“We have always worked closely with our emergency services partners and this co-location will only serve to strengthen that partnership and bring benefit to local residents.”
