Appeal after theft and vandalism of defibrillator in Glenrothes

Police in Fife are investigating after the vandalism and the theft of an defibrillator which was stolen from Glenrothes High School.

The lifesaving equipment was stolen from the Napier Road school sometime between Thursday, 25 March and Friday, 26 March

It was removed from an external casing for quick access to administer the most effective treatment to any person who may suffer cardiac arrest.

A number of plant pots were also smashed in the same area

The defibrillator has since been recovered after a member of the public contacted police to report they had found it discarded in their garden.

Inspector Kirk Donnelly of Glenrothes Police Station said "This type of equipment is often obtained through local community fundraising and there locations carefully chosen so they are available to anyone who may need them to save lives.

"The theft and vandalism of such an important piece of equipment is nothing short of despicable.

"My officers are following a positive line of enquiry but we would appeal to the public for any information about who is responsible for this crime to contact police on 101, quoting incident 0870 of 29 March or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"The defibrillator will be returned to its rightful place and owner following some further police enquiries."
