Appeal after man injured in serious assault on Glebe Road, Kilmarnock

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in Kilmarnock.

The incident happened at around 9.35pm on Thursday, 18 March, 2021 on Glebe Road. A 56-year-old man had just left a fish and chip shop premises on Welbeck Street with another man, before two men followed them onto Glebe Road.

The men approached the victim before a verbal altercation took place. One of the men then assaulted the victim with a bladed weapon.

The victim was taken to hospital with a serious injury to his torso. He remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Officers are seeking to trace three men in connection with the incident: the first two suspects who are believed to have followed the victim to Glebe Road and a third man who was with them at the fish and chip shop.

They are described as:

• White, medium build, aged late teens to twenties, short brown hair, wearing black Adidas jumper (white stripes), black shorts and white trainers.
• White, slim build, aged late teens to twenties, long brown hair, wearing black hoodie, black shorts, black trainers with white soles, and carrying a black North Face back pack.
• White, slim build, aged late teens to twenties, shaved brown hair, wearing a black North face hoodie, black jogging bottoms and black trainers.

The suspects were seen to leave the area on foot back in the direction of the chip shop on Welbeck Street.

Detective Constable Kevin Simpson from Kilmarnock CID said: “We have been conducting a number of enquiries in the local area to trace those involved in this incident, which has left the victim with serious injuries.

“We need to hear from anyone who was around the fish and chip shop on Welbeck Street, or in the vicinity of Glebe Road last night, who may have seen what happened and can help our enquiries.

“If you have any information to help the investigation, or recognise the suspect descriptions then I’d urge the public to contact officers as soon as possible.”
